This message was shared by a dear friend of mine, JJ J.J. Cox, and it couldn’t be more perfect! I want everyone to read it!!….

Today, we celebrate the birth of a child. As Christians we understand why we do this, but for those who don’t know, what we have come to know, let me briefly explain. We do this for several reasons.

One is because we have come to understand that his life on earth gave us a model of how to be the best version of us. His life modeled for us how to be people of patience, caring and forgiveness to our families, community and ourselves. In a world that celebrates and glorifies self-centeredness, his life taught us to put others before ourselves and to love them scarifiicially. We’re not perfect at following the model, but we have the mark to aim for with our words and actions on a daily basis.

Two, we find strength and encouragement through his teachings. We find out that when we study his life, that it gives us answers to questions we sometimes didn’t even realize we had, and certainly answers to those things we went looking for. We also find community with others who have experienced the knowledge of who Jesus was and that gives us people in our lives to lean on in times of heartache and disappointment; it also gives friends to celebrate life’s incredible moments.

Third, we understand the significance of his death. That it wasn’t just some tragic moment in time, but that it had eternal significance. His death paid a price that humanity owed. More importantly, his death led to an event three days later that settles the question of what happens to us when we die. There is life after death, and through Jesus, we have assurance of where that life will be spent.

We celebrate today, the birth of a child, because we’ve come to know the significance of his life, death and resurrection. We celebrate because we know him, and I write this because I want you to know him, too.
