Who we are

This site is operated by Teach BIG Writing Academy (Teach BIG), 3502 Columbia Memorial Pkwy, Kemah, TX 77565. You can reach us at 281-549-4466 or welcome@teachbig.com.

This policy explains what information we collect on this site, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers the public site, accounts, the store, course and deck access, registrations, and rosters.

Information you give us

When you create an account, we store the profile information you provide, such as your name, email address, organization, district or school, phone number, and role (teacher, parent, student, or admin). Student accounts are created through a school or teacher, and students sign in through their teacher's class.

When you place an order, register for an event, or join a roster, we collect the details needed to complete it, such as contact information and registration answers. Retreat rosters ask for each participant's name, email address, phone number, and any special considerations such as allergies or impairments so we can plan a safe event.

Teachers may enter student information to use the service, such as class rosters and student writing submitted for scoring and feedback. We use that information only to provide the service.

Student information

We use student information only to provide the educational service the school or teacher requested. We never sell student information.

Student accounts are created by schools or teachers, not by students directly. A parent or guardian who wants to review, correct, or delete a student's information can contact us at welcome@teachbig.com and we will work with the school as required by law.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies to make the site work. Sign in uses a session cookie from our authentication provider. The store uses a cart cookie (tb_store_cart) that remembers what you placed in your cart for up to 14 days.

We do not use third party advertising cookies, and the site sets no analytics cookies.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to run the site and serve our customers: creating and managing accounts, processing orders and registrations, granting access to courses, decks, and downloads, sending receipts and service messages, supporting retreats and events, and keeping the site secure.

How we share information

We share information only with the providers that run this site: Supabase for accounts and data storage, Stripe for payment processing, Vercel for hosting, and Resend for sending email such as receipts and confirmations.

We never sell your information or student information. We disclose information only when needed to provide the service, process a payment, comply with the law, or protect the rights and safety of our users.

Payments

Checkout runs through Stripe on our own store pages. Card details go directly to Stripe, and we never see or store full card numbers. Sales tax is calculated by Stripe Tax where it applies, and Stripe sends receipts for your purchase.

Chat helper

The site offers an optional chat helper for questions about our programs. What you type is sent to our chat service provider so it can generate a reply. Please do not enter sensitive personal information in the chat.

Your choices

You can ask us to review, correct, or delete your account information by writing to welcome@teachbig.com. Deleting an account removes access to courses, decks, and downloads tied to it. Some records, such as completed order records, are kept as required for tax and accounting purposes.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the updated version here with a new date. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Our Apps

Teach BIG, Home of The Writing Academy, is a public-facing brand owned and operated by The Writing Academy, LLC, a Texas limited liability company (“The Writing Academy,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

The Writing Academy publishes the Teach BIG family of educational apps, including Teach BIG TEKS Companion, Academic Vocabulary Companion, and Sidekick.

This Privacy Policy applies to Teach BIG apps that link to this policy. Our apps are designed primarily for teachers and educators, and we design them to respect your privacy.

Data We Collect

We do not collect personal data through the Teach BIG apps covered by this policy.

Our apps do not require you to create a Teach BIG account or register with us. The Teach BIG app lets you sign in with the same Teach BIG account you use on teachbig.com; accounts are created on teachbig.com, not in the app, and that account is covered by the website sections of this policy. Apart from that sign in, we do not collect your name, email address, physical address, contacts, precise location, or other personal details through these apps.

We also do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs to collect information about how you use our apps.

Information and Content Stored on Your Device

Information you create or enter within an app, such as notes, observations, selections, preferences, or settings, is ordinarily stored locally on your device.

This information is not transmitted to or stored on The Writing Academy’s servers.

Deleting an app or deleting content within an app may remove locally stored information, subject to the features and storage behavior of your device and Apple’s operating system.

iCloud

Certain Teach BIG apps may offer optional iCloud functionality, such as syncing content among devices associated with your Apple Account.

When an app uses iCloud, that information is stored and synchronized using Apple’s iCloud services associated with your Apple Account. The Writing Academy does not operate the iCloud service or store that content on our own servers.

Your use of iCloud is also subject to Apple’s applicable terms and privacy practices.

Purchases and Subscriptions

Some Teach BIG apps offer optional purchases, subscriptions, or paid features through Apple’s App Store.

Purchases are processed by Apple. The Writing Academy does not receive or store your payment card number, bank account information, or other payment-method credentials.

An app may receive information from Apple’s StoreKit services necessary to determine whether a purchase or subscription is active and to provide the features you purchased. We do not use this information to build advertising profiles or track you across apps or websites.

Apple handles App Store transactions according to Apple’s own terms and privacy practices.

Educational Content Updates

Some Teach BIG apps can periodically check for and download new or updated educational content. This allows instructional libraries and other resources to be updated without requiring a complete app update through the App Store.

These content requests are used to deliver educational content to the app. We do not use them to create a user profile or track how you use the app.

Where an app provides a setting that allows automatic content updates to be disabled, you may turn that feature off within the app.

Advertising, Analytics, and Tracking

The Teach BIG apps covered by this policy do not contain third-party advertising.

We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs to monitor your activity.

We do not engage in cross-app or cross-site tracking for advertising purposes.

We do not sell personal information.

Because we do not collect personal information through these apps, we do not sell or disclose such information to advertisers or data brokers.

Third-Party Services

Our apps may use services provided by Apple that are necessary to provide Apple-platform functionality, such as the App Store, StoreKit, and iCloud.

Apple operates those services under its own terms and privacy policies.

We do not provide personal information collected by our apps to advertising networks, analytics providers, or other third parties because our apps do not collect such personal information.

Children’s Privacy

Teach BIG apps are intended primarily for teachers, educators, and other adult users.

Our apps do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The apps covered by this policy are designed so that personal information from students is not required to use their educational features.

Data Retention and Deletion

The Writing Academy does not maintain personal information collected from these apps on our servers because the apps covered by this policy do not collect such personal information.

Information stored locally on your device can generally be removed by deleting the applicable content or deleting the app, depending on the app’s functionality.

If an app uses iCloud, content stored through iCloud is associated with your Apple Account and is managed through Apple’s services and your Apple device or account settings.

For apps used without a Teach BIG account, we do not maintain an account or personal-data record, so there is ordinarily no personal-data record on our servers for us to delete. If you sign in to the Teach BIG app with your Teach BIG account, you can ask us to delete that account as described in the website sections of this policy.

If you have a question about deletion or believe information has been provided to us in connection with one of our apps, you may contact us using the information below.

Your Choices and Control

Because our apps do not collect personal information for advertising or analytics, there is no advertising or analytics consent to withdraw from us.

Depending on the particular app and Apple services you use, you may control:

• Content-update settings within the app, where available;
• iCloud synchronization through the app or your Apple device settings;
• App Store subscriptions through your Apple Account settings; and
• Locally stored content by deleting content within the app or removing the app from your device.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if our apps, services, or privacy practices change.

When we make changes, we will update the Last updated date at the top of this page.

If a Teach BIG app begins handling information in a materially different way, we will update this policy or provide an app-specific privacy notice as appropriate.
